How To Reach The Great Wall Of China From Shanghai? (Travel Guide)

If you are traveling to Shanghai (China) and not visiting the Great Wall of China it would be something like visiting Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower, only with a small difference of the miles.

In Paris it is almost inevitable not to look up and to run into its face almost from any point of the city, however, access from Shanghai to any of the closest sections of the wall can become a real adventure.

This post is perhaps the one that we would have liked to find us before embarking on our Shanghai odyssey. If we travel to China on an organized trip, the most common is that our tour package already includes a guided bus tour to some of the most popular and accessible sections for tourists. However, what happens when we have traveled by free and only have our means to reach the Wall of China?

Shanghai Tour: What is the Great Wall of China?

To begin with, we must bear in mind that, being precise, we cannot speak of a wall, but from its very origin this construction was conceived as the connection of different defensive bastions that the different Chinese emperors were building in the north of the country to defend their borders.

Today, many of its stretches have disappeared, as in recent centuries, and losing their defensive function was gradually dismantled to take advantage of stones and stones in the construction of houses and other civil works.

In this way, it was not until Mao came to power, and during the heyday of Communist China that different sections of the wall were restored in order to turn it into a symbol of Chinese power for the rest of the world. Also of this time, and as part of the same propaganda, A strategy is a false assertion that the Great Wall of China is the only human construction seen from space. With a length of 8,851.8 kilometers, the Great Wall of China makes a winding journey through mountains, deserts, and plains of the Chinese geography.

Despite the imposing construction and the attempts of the soldiers to repel the attacks, the wall was crossed by the Mongols in the thirteenth century and later by the Manchus, in the seventeenth century.

Currently, most of the wall is in ruins, something that makes it difficult to travel through it.

The problem with most of these tours is that they are very crowded and include several obligatory stops in stores, this being their mode of financing.
